RTDI participates in support of Biotecyl in the INNOLABS project of 5 million euros to support the innovation of European SMEs

The European Commission has awarded the INNOLABS project a total of 5 million euros to promote innovation for European SMEs belonging to the ICT, Health, BIO and Medicine sectors.

Through an Acceleration Program, INNOLABS aims to promote the development of new innovative ideas through multidisciplinary teams from different countries and sectors. Projects should be related to health and mobile devices, personalised healthcare and an ageing population. INNOLABS will reward the 100 most innovative ideas with direct financing and other innovation services.

INNOLABS has a duration of 2.5 years and is funded by Horizon 2020, the EU’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

Overview of INNOLABS activities

INNOLABS will organize two major events for the elaboration of ideas (planned in Berlin and Paris), three hackathons (the first in Gdansk, Poland), a competition for university students and a final workshop in Oslo.

The INNOLABS Acceleration Program will consist of two “Open Calls” that will begin after each idea development event. Ideas will be presented and developed through online and face-to-face meetings and workshops. Subsequently, and with the support of INNOLABS, teams will be formed to advance in the definition and final elaboration of each idea. The best will be selected to move to the acceleration phase and will receive € 30,000 of direct funding.

In addition, through the knowledge and experience of project partners, consultants and external experts, the selected teams will be able to access additional innovation services valued at up to €20,000. A small set of projects will also be eligible for a rapid acceleration process.

The three INNOLABS hackathons will include workshops, different activities and prizes of € 15,000 for each of the four best ideas of each event. In addition, the contest for university students will award € 25,000 to the two best ideas. Finally, the best team among the participants in the two calls will receive a recognition prize of € 50,000.

Subsequently, INNOLABS will promote long-term sustainability through support and market introduction activities.
