SPICE project and RTDI’s collaboration at its launch

SPICE project and RTDI’s collaboration at its launch

On May 7, the launch of Project SPICE took place. It started remotely and established the way forward within the duration of the project and the actions to be adopted.

The SPICE project is funded by the European Framework Programme for R&D Horizon 2020. Under the title “Social cohesion, participation and inclusion through cultural engagement”, the project aims to develop methods and tools to support citizen cultural healing (understood as a process in which cultural objects are used as a resource by citizens to develop their interpretations). In this process, communities step in to develop cultural interpretations and museums participate to understand how citizens interpret their collections. In that sense, and taking advantage of new technologies, SPICE will enrich the physical and virtual museum experience through online and offline activities, allowing citizens to acquire a deeper cultural knowledge.

GVAM participates as a partner in this social cohesion project that encourages the participation of citizens in art curation through the inclusion of a wide variety of groups to establish interactions and share their interpretations of culture. It will be the partner responsible for the communication and exploitation of the results of the project, in addition to maximizing the innovation impact of the project.

Our participation in this project is to help GVAM in the application of a methodology to develop the strategy of exploitation of results of the project, so that its impact is maximized and reaches society as much as possible. We continue in this way, the work we already did on another project, also funded within the Horizon 2020 program, Cross Cult.

SPICE’s focus on citizen participation in cultural curation processes will involve the development of a Linked Data Layer to support content management (provided by museums and citizens), which will be based on the principles of the SOLID (Social Linked Data) data decentralization project. This technology will interconnect cultural resources and enrich the museum experience.

The SPICE project consortium is made up of 13 partners in total (three SMEs from various sectors, four heritage institutions and seven research centres) from Spain (GVAM, Padaone Games (PG), Universidad Complutense de Madrid); Italy (Universitá di Bologna, Turin Research Center, Galery of Modern Art Turin, CELI S.R.L), Finland (Aalto University, Design Museum Helsinki); Denmark (Aalborg University); United Kingdom (The Open University); Ireland (Irish Museum of Modern Art) and Israel ( University of Haifa).
